London - Singapore - Sydney....

This post is short and sweet as I'm standing directly across from the gate that will take me to New Zealand, so I don't have much time.

It's been a hell of a ride so far. We've gone from London to Singapore to Sydney and now to New Zealand. I've already got tons of photos and can't wait to share them with you all.

I've completely lost Thursday but feel I will definitely make up for it once we meet our friends in Auckland.

I'm in desperate need of a shower but I couldn't be a happier girl.

Will keep you posted soon!!

Hope you're all having a fabulous Thursday...Ah, Friday...Whatever day you're on!!

May the Odds Be Ever in your Favour

I know what you're all probably thinking, where have I been. It's true. As of Sunday, I had not jumped on The Hunger Games bandwagon. But so much has changed since Sunday.

I have always been curious about the series and had planned to read it for quite sometime. Sunday, Sam and I did some last minute New Zealand shopping and I thought, why not. Plus it was by one get one half off. There is just something about when the words 'Half' and 'Price' come together that makes me so happy. Anyways, back to the point. I had decided to save the books for the long travel to New Zealand but did that happen? I started The Hunger Games on Sunday night and finished this afternoon. Book one down.

Once I was halfway through, I made a deal with myself. I said, "Self, we have to save Catching Fire for the plane journey." To this, I agreed.

40 pages into to Catching Fire. So I'll get the third instalment of Katniss and friends at the airport. No biggie.

The story immediately stuck it's claws in me. As corny as it may sound, I can really relate to Katniss. Although I've never come close to dying of starvation, or been stuck in an arena with 23 other teenagers that want to kill me (although I went to high school), I have, in my life had to put others before myself on more than one occasion. By no means am I complaining. This helped mold me into the person I am today. Again, I'm trailing. Relate to Katniss, blah blah blah. This book has consumed me. I couldn't wait to get on the bus before and after work just so I had the freedom to read. This morning, I think I actually muttered a few words of disgust at the bus when the journey ended. I have fallen to the knees of this story and I'll be down here until I finish every last word.

I'm sure most of you have read them, or seen the movie, and all I have to say is, Why didn't you tell me? If you haven't already, run down (don't walk) to the local bookstore and get these books. Don't just buy the first cause trust me, you'll need 2 & 3. I don't think I've ever said this about a 20 hour plane journey, but I'm actually excited. I plan on putting in my headphones, turning on my reading mix (yes, I have a reading mix) and once again, loosing myself in District 12, the Capitol or wherever else Katniss decides to take me.

Have you been to The Hunger Games?

Tomorrow, Sam and I leave for New Zealand. Two days will be consumed by travel and I am unsure of where we will be, when. I have decided that I will be blogging while gone because, well, travel is a passion and I want to share it with you all. So please stayed tuned over the next two and a half weeks, as vicariously, you will be in New Zealand too.

Hope you're all having a glorious Tuesday!

SUN - Day

Last week Sam and I made the decision to stay in this weekend and get ready for our trip/not spend a lot of money. Of course, the sun decided to shine on us this weekend despite what the weather man said. So I was able to complete an outfit post! And got to go shopping, only for a few bits for the trip but still, shopping.

In the spirit of the sunshine, I decided on this outfit for my post. I bought a maxi dress last weekend for our trip to New Zealand but after much deliberation, decided that this dress would be better as a skirt. So....A few snips here and a few stitches there and voila! I've got a brand new maxi skirt.I am still debating with myself a to whether or not to make this my traveling outfit on Wednesday. Although I will still pack a pair of pajamas in my carry on just in case.

Maxi 'Skirt': House of Fraser
Tee: Primark
Bracelets: Assorted
Sunnies: Marc Jacobs
Bag & Belt: Thrifted

Hope you're all having a glorious weekend!

Calling All Blog Heads!!!

Three weeks ago, I started this blog. When I published my first post, I set my first goal: To have 1,000 page views in the first month. Well, yesterday I surpassed that! I screamed when I saw it and I've never seen Sam move so fast because he thought I was hurt. Hehe....

First of all, I would like to sincerely thank all of you who have visited, commented and even come back for a second or third time. You have no idea how happy it makes my heart every time the numbers of the page views go up or when I receive a new comment on one of my posts. It has opened my eyes to a whole new world and I love exploring all of the amazing blogs out there.

I'm here to reach out to my fellow bloggers. I am very much an amateur in the blog world. I am now asking you, my fellow bloggettes, for any tips, tricks, advice and wisdom you feel I should know about blogging. Any feedback and comments are welcome as I love to learn and I thought the best way is through you, my peers.

Please take the time to leave a comment giving me your best piece of advice about blogging. Be sure to leave me your URL, as I love blog browsing!

Hope you all had a fantastic Friday!

Rainy Day Hues

I've been struggling to produce more outfit posts as the weather here in London has not been permitting me to take photos. I told myself today that rain or shine, I was going to complete another outfit post. Luckily for more, the rain so nicely decided to give up just long enough for me to get some shots.

Jacket: Thrifted, Gap
Blouse: Gotta be honest and say I can't remember where I picked this one up!
Jeans: H&M
Shoes: Primark
Jewelry: Assorted

A very simple outfit cause when the weather isn't so great, I like to keep it comfy.

What's your favorite rainy day outfit?
Happy Friday eve!

Countdown to New Zealand!

Well everyone, we're finally in the home stretch. In one week from today, husband and I are commencing our New Zealand adventures. It feels like only yesterday this idea was spawned.

We were in the pub with our friends just before Christmas. They were about to embark on a world travelling expedition and Sam and I were headed to Seattle to celebrate the birth of my second niece. A few glasses of wine into the evening and the next thing I knew we were making plans to meet them in New Zealand and China later this year!!

China is still a few months away but New Zealand, well that's right around the corner. In honor of my excitement, I have put together some photos of everything I've put together so far, for the trip.

Travelling hat. Sam insists on having a 'travelling hat' everytime we go away. So this trip, I thought I'd join in on the fun. Picked this one up at Primark for cheap, so if I accidentally lose it, no biggie.

Travel journal, passports and mini New Zealand guide book? Check!

Jewelry: I am keeping most of the clothing I'm packing pretty simple as we are probably going to be very active, but I have to be able to accessorize. These are the few pieces I have picked to take with me.

My sister made this necklace for me. I've unofficially dubbed it my good luck charm.

Backpacks, day bags and my new favorite charity shop find - my leather bag.

A few of the items I purchased for the trip. My poncho, chinos, t-shirts (love Primark for tees!), shorts and a few sweaters...

The two pairs of shoes I bought. My TOMs who were featured in my previous post and my yellow moccasins from Primark. Can you tell we raided Primark?

Have any of you been to New Zealand? Would love to hear your stories.

Happy Hump Day!!

Weekend in Photos

20 pounds down and more clothes in my closet! Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to complete an outfit post this weekend.  I did, however, document some of my weekend in photos to share with you.

Friday. 2 p.m. Can't wait for work to be over.

Ride home. Even with all the complaining that takes place about London's transport, I still love that I get to take the Tube everyday.

20 pounds you say? Why not celebrate that with an ice cold beer?

Bloggity blog blog....bloggin...

Ahhh... My husband wants to be a nerd just like me!

Thought the sun might come out and play on Saturday. It did not...

On the train to go and do some shopping! Doesn't he look like a happy bunny?

Bought me some TOMs for New Zealand!!

Getting ready to do my hair!!

So happy with it...

Went out on Saturday night. The bar had fur on the seats!!

Previews of some of my great finds! Stay tuned for their reveal this week.

What did you do this weekend?

Ombre Hair

I've wanted to try this with my hair for quite some time now so today, I did it. After a lot of research, I realized I was able to achieve the look myself.
The picture doesn't do quite enough justice so I've included a video tutorial below documenting my journey to ombre hair.

Have you tried ombre hair? I'd love to see it!
Happy Saturday!

Color Blocking

One of my favorite trends this season has to be the color block. I love that you can have a number of different colored brights in one single outfit. Thinking of how I wanted to portray my interpretation of color blocking, I thought of my nails. My nails are rarely without color and when I was thinking what color to paint them today, it dawned on me that I should combine the two. Now there are many variations of this look and I've seen quite a few. But I thought I'd walk you through the color block I've created on my nails.(Excuse the small cut on my finger, I got in a fight with a cheese grater).

What you'll need:

Two brightly colored nail polishes. I have chosen Rimmel's Urban Purple and Avon's Coral. I use Rimmel nail polish quite a bit as I find it works fantastically for me.

You will also need a few french manicure strips, or painters tape.

Next, choose a few nails on each hand that you would like to be the 'color block' nails. I have chosen different fingers on each hand as I like to be a bit uneven. With your designated nails, place the strip or tape a little more than halfway down your nail.

Now, I have chosen to do contrasting colors on each hand. By this I mean, on my left hand, I have painted three nails in full with Urban Purple. With my color block nails, I have painted the lower and smaller part the Urban Purple as well and the upper and larger part with Avon's Coral.

Once the color blocked nails have dried, peel off the strip or tape very slowly. Then, very carefully, commence painting the lower part of the nail.

Complete these steps with the other hand and voila! Color Blocked nails.

I have to be honest with you, my intention today was to post another outfit but once I got home from work, I craved something a bit less intensive. Thinking a How To would be that, I began the color block journey. This has been the most difficult post  I have done yet! Although I've only written about ten or so, the amount of time and effort that goes into a How To was beyond my expectations. But, with a little help from the hubby, I was able to conquer yet another hurdle and post these steps for you.

What do you think?

What colors would you choose for your color blocked nails?

Pretty Woman

I bought this dress from Dorothy Perkins last fall. I had been searching for something to wear on a night out in London with Sam when it graced my path. I later wore it to work where one of my co-workers stated that it looks like the dress that Julia Roberts wore to the polo match in Pretty Woman. And thus spawned the name for my dress. Surprisingly, it is actually quite flattering on me which is odd as, having a larger chest, high cut clothing doesn't really suit me. But this does! Fate??
Dress: Dorothy Perkins; White Pumps: Charlotte Russe (hand me down from my sister); Belt & Necklance: Thrift Store find; Bag: Dooney and Bourke; Bracelets: Fuego

Since purchasing it, I have lost quite a bit of weight so a belt is a must. I have a lot of confidence that this piece will be staying in my wardrobe for a very long time.

Below I've also paired it with wool tights and boots for a more casual look.

Dress, Belt & Boots: Dorothy Perkins; Wool Tights: New Look

How would you wear this dress?
